APPENDIX   F

Supplementary entries after the reporting of the death of A.T. Winders in the paper of 8 September 1920.

Note on the scope of supplementary entries.

This list confined to persons whose first appearance in the paper is after 8 September 1920

OR

In a few cases to persons whose above the line information has been changed significantly in the light of later discoveries.

Are all those whose first entries date from after the war returned servicemen?

This is sometimes difficult to establish.  Most post war entries refer to soldier settlers and others clearly identified in the context as former servicemen, but some entries derive from RSL club activities where the identification is less certain.  The RSL had associate members with full rights except for voting.  They could be:

·         Sons of returned or deceased soldiers over 21

·         All men who enlisted or offered their services [i.e. the ‘not accepted’ group]

·         Fathers of returned soldiers

·         Members of naval, military and air force over 21 who were ineligible to serve in the Great War
